A Short Autobiography

image

I was born in Oakland, California and raised in San Leandro.

During my youth I played the violin, organ, took lessons in tap dance and sang in choral groups. I enjoyed running (I came in 4th place citywide in the 50 yard dash and my relay team 3rd place), gymnastics, swimming, water skiing,

snow skiing, camping, riding my bike and horses.

I also liked to climb

My favorite place to hike and camp is in Yosemite National Park. I prefer to do so in a tent. I love the sounds and sights of nature. I carry a camera with me. The food is cooked over the fire. I like to hike and travel dirt roads just to see where they go (thus seeing a lot of wildlife not usually seen near campgrounds).

In 1998 I was a delivery driver for a florist. I thought getting in and out of the van was the reason my right hip hurt. But then standing to wash dishes become difficult, along with climbing stairs in my home.

A neighbor friend, who has fibromyalgia, lamented she thought I had it also. When another friend told me about an advertisement about a fibromyalgia class being given locally. I decided to take it, to learn more about it. I learned that other symptoms, thinking they were unrelated, were also part of this condition.

Because there isn't a test YET to diagnose fibromyalgia (it is diagnosed by symptoms and ruling out other conditions as arthritis and lupus) my husband accused me of using fibromyalgia as an excuse . . . this lead to him wanting me out of his life. We separated in May 2001.

I was officially diagnosed in August 2001.

In my class I learned if I don't stretch and exercise to keep my muscles toned, I would loose mobility. Cold water has an adverse affect on me (I can't even raise my arms up to take off a t-shirt).

After the weather warms up I am able to hike and camp. However, my ankles are getting more weak, thus I'm now becoming limited to trails without climbing boulders and rocks.

I also enjoy gardening, as I also did as a child.
